I remember years ago flipping through an old issue of Artforum — it had been sitting on my shelf for about a year before I finally got to it. Somewhere in the middle, I suddenly lit up. There was a close-up of a print by one of my favorite artists, Walton Ford, advertising an exhibition of his in New York City. I was thrilled at the idea of finally seeing his work in person for the first time in my life.
But the excitement lasted only a moment. I checked the dates… and the show had already ended. I had missed it completely.
Has that ever happened to you? The timing isn’t right for a show you want to see, or maybe you only hear about it after it’s already gone? Or maybe — if the stars align — you’ve caught something incredible just before it came off view. That happened to me too with the Obama Portraits by Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald. I was heading to the de Young Museum in San Francisco one Sunday, only to discover it happened to be their very last day on display. Pure luck.
Museo was created to make art tourism easier — and to make moments like these less about luck and more about connection. Not only can you follow your favorite artists and institutes and find their works anywhere in the world, but you can also get alerts about special exhibitions happening now and in the future. Just navigate to the Events page, and use the search bar to look up any artist, institute, era, or theme you want to catch a show from. If you follow your favorite institute, you’ll even get push notifications about new exhibitions so you’re always in the loop.
And Museo is growing every single day. New users add new artworks, and our reach continues to expand across institutes around the world. Keep the app handy when you travel — or even when you’re exploring your own city. It’s your number one tool for discovering the art that surrounds you.
Hope to see you on Museo soon.
